UP, UP AND AWAY (am) June 17 - 21 8:30-11:30 am Instructors: Kim Downs, Marvin Lowe Location: MLMS Room 107 Grades: 7-12
Have you ever wondered how many helium balloons it would take to lift you off the ground? Your going to find out. Each participant will build and fly three lighter than air craft two of which they can take home and fly some more. Then you will build and fly two versions of a flying wing and experiment with flying them. Each student will build and launch a rocked that uses a solid chemical rocket engine. We will be measuring height and speed of flight and experimenting by changing the design of the flying machines to control the air resistance. When you finish the week of fun you will have 5 flying machines to play with for the rest of the summer. (Only 27 remaining) |

Can you recognize the math behind the art, and the art embedded in math? Students will explore mathematical principals of art including symmetry, translation, and rotation to create two- and three-dimensional art.
